Just a Little Twist - Spaghetti Joes!

We had a slight twist on an old standard for dinner this evening, Italian Sloppy Joes.  (Sloppy Giuseppes?  Sloppy Joeys?)  It was quick and easy and doesn't really need a tutorial.  I just browned 2 pounds of ground beef, with one chopped onion, then added in a jar of spaghetti sauce.

Meat, onion, and sauce.

I had Classico Traditional Sweet Basil on hand.

I took hamburger buns, sprayed them with my fave, I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray, sprinkled them with garlic powder and browned them in the oven.

Prepped.

Hot and ready to go.

Served up.

Verdict:  Yes!

We had four sandwiches and have enough meat left over for another four.  I may try one with mozzarella on it; that sounds good.

I also think it might be interesting with some pepperoni chopped up in the meat.  I may do that next time, then we could call them Pizza Joes.  :)

Update:  We've had this a couple of times now, and I think I've decided on my favorite way to eat it.  After browning the garlic buns, I take them out of the oven, add some mozzarella cheese and pop them back under the broiler long enough to get melty, then take them out and add the meat, etc.  Oooooh so good!

Oh, and the latest name suggestion is Spaghetti Joes.  I think I likey.

  1. Oooh yum! I like your ideas on the additions to the sandwich! May try those myself - especially the mozzarella.
